WTK: Kahr's M1928 dummy Thompson SMG?

Post  LarsRobert on Thu Feb 11, 2010 10:35 am

Greetings everyone,

I was visiting Kahr Arms' website and saw that they now sell an all steel version of the Auto-Ordnance M1928 Thompson Submachinegun for $549, less $10 for business retailers.

Emailed about it and was told that the upper is milled from a solid billet of steel and is completely inoperable. The bolt is fixed and does not retract...I don't think that it even has a bolt/lock and actuator...but who knows?

The lower am told is a regular ol' SMG lower with all parts. Whether or not if it breaks down or not is anyones' guess. Looking at it, it looks more like a semi-auto M1927A1 SBR with a fixed stock. But for $549, it better be a darned GOOD replica, huh?

So, has anyone purchased one of these TSMG dummy guns from Kahr as of late? If so, please post your comments about it for all of us who may be thinking about dropping that kind of money for a TSMG wall-hanger.

Thanks everyone for reading through,

Kim in NW GA

Sorry, not sure. Are they just carrying a Denix or something, or are they making them themselves?

They're making the dummy Thompson themselves exclusively. The ad on their site says that the upper is milled from a solid billet of steel...just like the semis and SMGs. I EMailed them about this dummy gun and that was what I was told, along with the fact that the lower has all its parts, too.

But again, first thinking that this dummy gun may be a SMG dummy...in reading further about it told me that it is merely a semi-auo SBR dummy gun with NO SMG parts...just semi parts.

...but to answer you initial question...no, it's not those Japanese MGC zinc and plastice dummy guns.

Thanks for the response. I was beginning to think that this board was desolate. I thought I heard crickets when I visited at times. HA!

Yeah... I started this up when the MP40 board dropped its blank firing sub-forum. Since that was the only blank firing gun forum I knew of, I figured I'd just start my own.

Then when the mp40modelguns forum shifted over to the forumotion site (after asking me what I'd used for mine), they set up a bfg forum again, so this one wasn't really needed anymore.

Still, it's here, and another venue for clients or collectors to get answers from folks other than just me, or know that I'm publicly standing behind my answers.

A.O.'s 1928 Thompson SMG replica

Post  LarsRobert on Fri Aug 13, 2010 8:56 am

No, these are top quality replica dummies whereas they are made of forged steel and the lower is fully functional (so I was told by A.O.).

The bolt doesn't work, but this replica is an exact clone of the military version of the M1928A1 Navy SMG.

Check it out at A.O.'s website. http://www.tommygun.com/PA-1TH_t1dm.html

Also, they give dealer pricing to FFL dealers. So, if you're real good friends with your local FFL and since he/she doesn't have to enter this dummy gun into his/her BATFE A&D Book, he/she may just hand it over to you...(IF) you do a lot of REAL firearm business with him/her already.

They look REALLY neat...and would look REALLY cool on the wall...but to get them to hang, you gotta put a "stick" 30 rounder in the mag well so it'll lay against the wall flat.

Hope that this helps. Hey, I am just happy to see that there's been some traffic on this board now.
