Green gas= Propane?

Post  Fight Designer on Mon Feb 11, 2008 5:50 pm

Anybody tried running green or red gas airsoft guns off Propane? This auction for an adapter made me curious:

No i have tried it myself but i hear its a cheap way of running GBB models apparently it is more powerful than normal 134 gas so you need to be careful what models you use it in but otherwise it s fine so i am told

Interesting. Closer to the old 'red gas' then, maybe?

I'm
realizing that I have no idea how this all works- Ok, I get the part
about a compressed gas being released and harnessing that pressure for
blowback and propulsion of the bb... but I don't get how the type of
gas makes much difference as separate from just how much pressure that
gas is under- which seems more a factor of how full or empty the mag or
cannister are... right?

Generally I'm not that bad with
mechanics, but it's always much harder for me when it's stuff you can't
just see or easily visualize.

Not sure myself either but there is a big difference in the types of gas, i have some full metal GBB ones and if you use 134 in those they work but just, if you use the more powerfull gas then they perform as you would expect especially on full auto but use the poweful gas in most of the plastic models and seals blow. i have a KSC robocop model and if i use anything but 134 it blows the slide off the rails, not good.
So i have no idea what makes one gas more powerful than the next but they are, where propane lies in the power range i dont know but its the cheapest way to power your GBB's.

I have read several topics like this on the net and have been told that green gas IS propane with different odorants. As a matter of fact, some of the green gas you buy actually smells like propane. Probably because it is, I suppose. I hate that smell! I prefer to buy the green gas that has the more pleasant odor. In fact, I have a couple cannisters of HFC green that smells like propane. Anybody want them?

Heck, free gas I wouldn't turn down, but I've discovered it's a HUGE pain in the ass trying to ship compressed gasses...

You're right. Shipping them is a pain. I have bought some from retailers who still send it FedEx, though. Probably not completely proper...........

I was told they could only do it on an in-home pickup. Tried arranging a pickup at my work during the day time.
They didn't come at all the first day, second try someone happened to come but didn't know anything about my pickup request, and didn't have the DG (Dangerous Goods) form needed. This was a time-sensitive order, and thus a deal-breaker for me... but there's just no way I can take a whole day waiting at home for a delivery guy, given my two jobs, full time grad school, family, etc.

But it is supposedly do-able, unlike with UPS, who require a special contract to do this.
